Turning the Lights On: Why Exposure Matters

This morning, we’re about to do an exposé—on the kingdom of darkness.

Because here’s the thing: Satan loses a lot of power once he’s unmasked. He hates light. Demons scurry when the light is turned on.

And if my voice sounds a little gravelly today… maybe I’m supposed to preach gravelly. Sometimes you’ve got to reach down to that low gear—four-wheel drive during this season.

So let’s do it. Let’s turn the light on.

Quick Review: Why Jesus Came (1 John 3:8)

On the first Sunday of the year, we started right out of the gate with 1 John 3:8:

“For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

We talked about those powerful words—purpose, manifested, destroy, and works.

Jesus came on a mission—as a Liberator—to undo, untie, unbind, and unravel what the devil ties people up in. The devil ties knots. Jesus undoes them.

What are “the works of the devil”?

The list is long, and you know it:

  • lies, bondage, captivity

  • hatred, anger, lust, greed

  • addictions, destructive relationships

  • confusion, chaos, perversion

  • sickness and oppression

  • hopelessness and despair

And if it steals, kills, or destroys (John 10:10), trace it to its source—it’s not God.

When the Devil Hits You With a Sucker Punch

Some of you feel like the devil has “given you the works.” He loves the gut punch. The sucker punch out of nowhere.

But here’s what I love about being part of the body of Christ:

I might fall. He might knock me down. But I have resurrection power that raises me up again.

It’s like trying to hold a beach ball underwater—eventually the beach ball wins. And if the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, He will quicken your mortal body too.

So yes, you can watch the news all week and get discouraged and depressed… but I hope you’re getting into your Bible—because that’s where the light shines.

A Legal Reality: Satan Has No Rights to You Anymore

Here’s where the message gets wonderfully direct:

When Jesus rescued you, He deprived Satan of any rights to you.

The chains have been cut. The bonds severed. And the devil’s activity in your life became unlawful the moment you received Christ.

And the transcript goes even further:

Even if you said things in the past you never should’ve said—promises, vows, allegiances in darkness—it’s canceled at Calvary. Under the blood. No claim. No power.

But there’s one key condition:

It starts with surrender

For any of this to have lasting effect, you must surrender your life to Jesus Christ—put Him on the throne.

From “Liberated” to “Liberator”: You’re Becoming Dangerous

Once Jesus is on the throne, you become… dangerous.

The transcript says it plainly: God didn’t just save you to make your life better. Yes, John 10:10 says abundant life—and we’ll take that. But that’s not the full story.

Because when Jesus saved you… He drafted you into His army.

And He wants to empower you with the Holy Spirit to become a spiritual wrecking ball against the works of the devil—just like Jesus was.

“You’re not dangerous until…”

This line is strong:

The enemy will let you remain a Christian if all you do is remain a Christian. But you’re not dangerous until you link up with other believers and start doing something for God.

In other words: the Kingdom is not “me, myself, and I.” It’s mission.

The Same Anointing: From the Head to the Body (Psalm 133 + 1 John 2:27)

Now we shift into one of the central themes: the anointing.

The anointing breaks the yoke. And when you put anointed truth together with the anointing… watch out.

The message takes us to Psalm 133, where oil poured on Aaron’s head ran down his beard and onto the whole body—down to the hem and even to the feet.

Then it connects that picture to the New Covenant:

  • Jesus is the High Priest of our faith (Hebrews 3:1)

  • Jesus is the Head of the Church

  • When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on Him—He was anointed

So what does that mean for us?

If Jesus is the Head, we are the Body. And the same anointing on the Head flows down onto the Body.

It’s not a different Holy Ghost. It’s not a different anointing. The same anointing is on us.

If you get out from under the center of Christ, you get out from under the anointing. Stay centered on Jesus, and the anointing continues to flow.

What Are We Anointed to Do? (Luke 4 + John 14:12)

The transcript quotes Jesus reading from Isaiah in Luke 4:

  • preach good news to the poor

  • heal the brokenhearted

  • proclaim deliverance to captives

  • recovery of sight to the blind

  • set at liberty the bruised

  • preach the acceptable year of the Lord

And then Jesus said something that cannot be ignored:

John 14:12 — the works He did, believers will do also.

That’s why the Church exists.

And the transcript says it with a grin:

We weren’t anointed for soup.We weren’t anointed for ice cream socials. We weren’t anointed for bingo.

Fun is fine—but if we aren’t doing what we’re anointed to do… what are we doing?

Babylon: The Spirit Behind Anti-God Systems

Now we get to the “exposé” part.

The transcript describes Babylon as more than a city—it’s a movement, a spirit, a world system that embodies what is against God. A “taste of hell on earth.”

It’s pervasive. And if we’re not careful, we can even carry it.

So heaven issues a call:

“Come out from among them… be separate.”

In plain language: don’t let that “Babylon” stank get on you.

“Babylon Is Fallen, Is Fallen” (Revelation 18 + Isaiah 21)

The message turns to Revelation 18, where the angel announces:

“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen…”

And the transcript connects it to Isaiah 21:9—that same prophetic cry: Babylon is fallen, is fallen.

The point is simple but bold:

Babylon looks strong. Massive. Impregnable. But it’s rotten at its core. And in a day—no, in an hour—it comes down.

The devil wants you to believe he’s carrying the day. But his days are numbered.

The Call: Come Out… and Then Give It Back Double (Revelation 18:4–6)

Here’s where the transcript gets especially practical.

Revelation says:

  • “Come out of her, my people…”

  • and then it says: “Render to her just as she rendered to you… repay her double…”

That’s a word for anyone who feels like the enemy has been troubling them.

It’s not just “get even.” The transcript frames it as a calling:

God wants to use you to cause twice as much trouble to the kingdom of darkness as darkness caused you.

What does “double trouble” look like?

Not revenge. Not drama. Not flesh-and-blood fights.

It looks like doing Kingdom work:

  • set captives free

  • serve others in Jesus’ name

  • bring healing through the power of Christ

  • proclaim the gospel

  • believe for the impossible

  • link arms with the Church and get to work

Fear will taunt you: “What if nothing happens?”

And the answer is: What if something does?

Don’t Do It Alone: Get Involved and Get Moving

The transcript lands in a very “boots on the ground” place:

You can serve. You can help. You can get involved. And when you get a revelation of what you’re doing for the Kingdom, even tedious tasks become celebration.

Then it expands outward: missions, going, praying, giving—because not everyone can go, but everyone can participate.

And the repeated message becomes:

Babylon has fallen. Jesus Christ is King.

Let’s keep it simple:

If you’ve been under attack, don’t just survive it. Expose the darkness, stay centered under Jesus, and step into what you’re anointed to do.
