When the Lord Redirects the Message
All week I was seeking the Lord—asking what I should share. I had so many things on my mind (even teaching on the Trinity), and I could’ve gone a lot of directions. But the Lord kept bringing me back to something simple: the worship songs He put on my heart for this week.
So instead of preaching “around” the service, I want to preach from the service—from what we already sang and what God was already speaking.
“The Battle Belongs to You” (Why We Need This Reminder)
The first song we sang was “Battle Belongs.” And the words hit right where many of us live:
“When all I see is the battle, You see my victory.”
“When all I see is a mountain in my way, You see a mountain moved.”
“When I fight, I’ll fight on my knees… the battle belongs to You.”
We need that reminder—because the battles, tests, and trials we face are real. And it’s been said (and it’s true) that you’re either:
in a battle
coming out of a battle
or about to enter a battle
But here’s the key: there’s a purpose in the battle.
Trials Wake Us Up to Our Need for God
Yes—of course we need God every day and every moment. The very breath we breathe is because of His mercy and grace.
But there’s something about a trial that brings our need for God into action.
A trial can bring you to your knees—not just because you’re exhausted, but because you’re searching for God. Testing seasons have a way of pushing us to seek Him again.
Comfort Makes Us Coast
If we’re honest, our natural gravitation is toward comfort. When everything is going well, we tend to coast spiritually, and we can drift from close relationship with the Lord.
The transcript connects this to a familiar biblical pattern—especially with Israel:
Sin → Suffering → Supplication → Salvation
When things went well, they forgot God. When hardship came, they remembered. And God used that hardship to draw their hearts back.
“It Matters.” (A Wake-Up Call That Still Stands)
The Lord put a simple message in my heart years ago:
It matters.
It matters when we seek God—and when we don’t.It matters when we pray—and when we don’t.
This is real.
And especially in winter—when it’s easy to get lulled into spiritual sleep—don’t let yourself drift. Get ahold of God for yourself… and wake up.
Spiritual Fitness Works Like Physical Fitness
After Christmas, I started evaluating my physical life—realizing I needed to get back to the gym, get back to resistance, do the hard thing… like getting up at 6 a.m. and heading out into the cold.
And you know what? The difficult thing brought life to me.
How much more in the spiritual sense?
Strength Comes From Resistance (Not Comfort)
Muscles get strong through resistance. They don’t just happen.
But you know what does happen all by itself?
Atrophy.
If I do nothing, I’ll be weaker tomorrow than I am today. And spiritually, it’s similar: if we do nothing—if we avoid prayer, fasting, time with God—our spirit doesn’t magically get stronger.
And I get it: when you hear words like praying, fasting, spiritual disciplines, your flesh immediately goes, “No thank you.” But when you follow through, you don’t regret it.
When the News Tries to Hijack Your Heart
The transcript gets really honest here: certain news can boil our blood. And if we let it control us—if it gets integrated into us—our heart can harden into anger and rage.
Yes, there’s such a thing as holy anger. But it’s easy to sin in anger, and we need to be careful.
So what’s the move?
Sometimes the move is simple: shut it off and get your perspective back.
God Is on the Throne (Psalm 46 and the Peace We Forget)
This is where the Word brings us back to center:
Psalm 46:1 — God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2026-02-01
And then Psalm 46:10:
“Be still and know that I am God.”Mic drop. 2026-02-01
Be still. Stop striving. Stop trying to wrestle control back from God. Be still and know: He will be exalted among the nations. He will be exalted in the earth.
The message is clear: no matter what it looks like, God is in control, and His purposes will be fulfilled.
Our Battle Isn’t Against People (Ephesians 6:12)
We need to recalibrate, because it’s easy to forget what the real battle is:
Ephesians 6:12 — we wrestle not against flesh and blood; the battle is in the spirit.
So where is our fight?
On our knees. In worship. In prayer.Asking: “Let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done.”
“The Lord Will Provide” (Jehovah Jireh and Real Peace About Needs)
The second song we sang was “The Lord Will Provide.” Some of you needed to hear that today.
One of God’s names is Jehovah Jireh, tied to Genesis 22—Abraham and Isaac—where God provided a ram after testing Abraham’s obedience.
And from there, the message moves into Matthew 6—one of those “pure gold” passages that heals and re-centers us:
Don’t worry about your life—food, drink, clothing.
Look at the birds—your Father feeds them.
Worry can’t add an hour to your life.
Seek first His kingdom and righteousness.
This line matters:
Your Heavenly Father knows what you need.
And this is where peace lives: God gives grace for today, and when tomorrow comes, He’ll give grace for tomorrow. But tomorrow isn’t here yet.
Draw Near to God (And He Will Draw Near to You)
The message shifts into something deeply personal: seeking God with your whole heart.
Jeremiah 29:12–13 — You will call on Me and come and pray… you will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.
That’s the hinge.
And then:
James 4:8 — Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
If you’ve felt distant, the question isn’t meant to condemn—it’s meant to invite:
Are you seeking Him with all your heart?Forsaking all others?Clinging to Him like a vow?
Because He promises: when you truly run after Him, He will meet you there.
Don’t Waste the Trial: Let It Build Your Faith (James 1)
The transcript ends by landing on something we need when life is hard:
James 1 — Consider it joy when you fall into various trials, because the testing of your faith produces endurance, spiritual maturity, and inner peace.
Endurance has a “thorough work” in you.
And here’s the real-life picture: someone who used to get knocked flat by a trial—over time—learns to stand. They get stronger. The “faith muscle” develops.
So if you’re facing something right now—health, finances, relationships—God is with you. He’s working. He will come through… and the battle belongs to Him.
If you’re in a battle right now, don’t do it alone.
