First Steps

If you stand still you will never go anywhere. The walk of a Christian is a life-long journey. God never intended you to take that path alone. We invite you to take your First Steps with us here at The Love Church.

Take these First Steps in your relationship with God and others:

1. The VERY, FIRST STEP on your faith pathway should be a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You have to start here. You really can't take any other steps toward God without taking this Very, First Step. The Bible says in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Jesus loves you and died for you, taking on himself the punishment or penalty for your sins. While everyone has made the choice to sin, Jesus came to save us from our sins and to give us life- abundantly and eternally!

If you are ready to take this Very, First Step, follow this link: NEED HIMThis off-site web address will take you through the process of understanding what this Very, First Step involves.

How do I become a follower of Jesus Christ?

It's as simple as ABC. Take these actions with sincerity in your heart.

Admit that I am a sinner.

Bible references: Isaiah 53:6; Luke 13:3; Romans 3:23; I John 1:8

Believe in Jesus and what He did for me.

Bible references: Mark 1:15; John 1:12; Acts 16:31

Confess (tell others) that He is Lord of my life.

Bible references: I Corinthians 12:3; Romans 10:9-10

Read this amazing scripture passage...
8For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;
9Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]
10For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Ephesians 2:8-9 Amplified Version

Pray this prayer

 from your heart…

“Heavenly Father, I confess my sins. I am sorry for breaking your commands. I realize that I am a sinner. I also accept and choose to believe that your Son, Jesus Christ died for my sins. The blood of His sacrifice  for me and the whole world paid the penalty for my sins. I believe you accepted that holy sacrifice when you raised Jesus from the dead. Please forgive me God of all of my sins because of that sacrifice. I now accept your forgiveness even though I don’t deserve it. I receive it by faith. Please write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life so when I die I will gain entrance to Heaven. Not by my goodness but by faith in the One who was good FOR me.”

“Lord Jesus, my Savior come into my life now with your Holy Spirit. Cleanse me, change me, transform me, heal me, immerse me, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. I receive your grace. I receive your life. I receive your Spirit. I receive Eternal Life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.”

If you have taken this Very, First Step on the pathway, congratulations, and welcome to God’s family!

    2. PRAY - Relationships grow through communication. Prayer is your communication with God. Take time to communicate your concerns, questions and desires with Him. Also, take time to listen for how God will communicate with you! He speaks through His Word (Bible), in quiet moments, and through other people.
    3. BIBLE reading and study - The Bible is a book of love letters from God to His children. Its message is not antiquated, but relevant for today. He introduces Himself to us and gives us basic principles, guidance, and inspiration on how to live. Just as our physical bodies need regular feedings to maintain good health and energy, so our spiritual life needs to be fed the Word of God. Set a daily time to read the Bible. If you don't have a Bible, we will give you one!
    4. Be BAPTIZED - As soon as there is another water baptism service scheduled, notify the pastor that you want to obey Christ and be water baptized. Acts 2:38 says, "Repent and be baptized every one of you.."
NOTE; Once you get to this point you should look into beginning your  NEXT STEPS along this pathway. These next steps include a commitment to your church family and other exercises in personal growth. Classes 100 & 101 will lead you in the right direction.Sign up for this Class as soon as you get a chance.
    5. FELLOWSHIP with other believers - This is where we gather with other Christ-followers to encourage one another and help each other be accountable. Join a GROUP as soon as the opportunity becomes available. Groups are small gatherings of between 6 and 12 people that meet once a week for about 10 weeks at a time. Some new Groups will be starting soon.

    6. WITNESS to others who need Christ - Every Christian is a missionary. II Corinthians 5:20 says, “We are ambassadors for Christ.” Ask God for opportunities to share your faith in Jesus Christ. Our lives should be a witness in both our words and actions.

    7. Become a GIVER; It's a family trait! - (Luke 6:38; II Corinthians 9:6-8; Proverbs 3:9-10) Let a flow of giving begin and grow in you. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” Give forgiveness, time, talents and treasure!

    8. Be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT - (Luke 11:13; Acts 2:4,38-39) This experience will better prepare you for witness and ministry. There is much more from the Holy Spirit for us such as gifts (I Corinthians 12) and fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).

    9. Volunteer to reach out and SERVE as a minister in Christ’s church - (Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 6:7) Christ wants us to find ways to serve others. And as we serve them, we should do so as though we are serving Jesus himself!

    10. START TRAINING - We have several Spiritual Personal Trainers (SPTs) who are ready to help you get off to a good start in you spiritual growth. SPTs are trained to coach you through your new Christian walk. Just notify us that you are ready to meet with one of our SPTs and we will connect you. 1 Timothy 4:8 says, "For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life, and also for the life that is to come."

Once you have started taking your FIRST STEPS as outlined on this page, you can begin considering the NEXT STEPS. These steps are simply DOORWAYS to new levels in Christian life and experience. Be alert to announcements and notices giving dates for the following Core Classes and then sign up.

Join with us in worship this week and begin taking the First Steps on your exciting adventure with God.
